Make Music Orange County Returns Sunday with Free Performances Across Orange County
The free event invites musicians of all ages and experience levels to perform while bringing live music to unexpected places throughout Orange County.
More than 45 artists will perform at locations across Orange County on Sunday as Make Music Orange County returns for its second year, transforming museums, libraries, restaurants, community spaces, and a Winter Park bus stop into stages.
Part of the worldwide Make Music Day celebration, the free event encourages musicians of all ages and experience levels to perform in public spaces while inviting residents to experience live music in unexpected places.
Music Beyond Traditional Stages
Unlike a traditional music festival, Make Music Orange County isn’t built around headliners or a central stage. Instead, performances are spread throughout the county, creating opportunities for musicians and audiences to connect in spaces that might not typically host live music.
This year, performances are scheduled everywhere from museums and libraries to restaurants and community spaces. One performance is even scheduled for the Park Avenue and Morse Boulevard bus stop in Winter Park.
Participating locations include the Orange County Regional History Center, the Mennello Museum of American Art, Blue Bamboo Center for the Arts, branches of the Orange County Library System, and a variety of local businesses and gathering spaces throughout the county.
The event traces its roots to France’s Fête de la Musique, which launched in 1982 with a simple mission: encourage people to make music in public spaces. Since then, the celebration has expanded to more than 1,000 cities worldwide.
Orange County joined the movement last year, hosting 40 performances across over 16 locations. Those performances featured a wide variety of styles, including Indian choral, bluegrass, funk, country, jazz, pop, classical, Vietnamese fusion, Latin music, and barbershop harmony.
A Platform for Local Musicians
For some musicians, the event has become more than just another performance opportunity.
“Make Music Day gave me the perfect opportunity to debut my talent at local venues last year, and I’ve grown so much as an artist since then,” musician Arum Lee Lansel said in a statement released by Orange County. “I can’t wait to perform again this year and help bring our community together through music.”
The lineup reflects that same spirit this year. Artists scheduled to perform include Orlando musician Justin Kangrga, the Vietnam Fusion Band, and dozens of other performers representing a broad range of musical styles and backgrounds.
“It was such a joy to launch Make Music Day in Orange County last year, and I’m excited to celebrate again,” said Vicki Landon, administrator of Orange County Arts & Cultural Affairs. “I hope everyone takes a moment on June 21 to enjoy or create some music for their friends, family, and community.”
Whether it’s a performance inside a museum, outside a library, in a neighborhood gathering space, or at a bus stop in Winter Park, Make Music Day invites residents to experience music in places they might not normally expect to find it.
